Lent Course

Published on Wednesday 16 February 2022

Based on the highly acclaimed and bestselling book 'The Return of the Prodigal Son' by Henri JM Nouwen, our Lent course will help us reflect on the meaning of the parable in our own lives. A chance encounter with a reproduction of Rembrandt's painting 'The Return of the Prodigal Son' catapulted Henri Nouwen on a long spiritual adventure.

During the course we probe the several movements of the parable: the younger son's return, the father's restoration of sonship, the elder son's resentment and the father's compassion. All of us who have known loneliness, dejection, jealousy or anger will respond to the persistent themes of homecoming, affirmation and reconciliation.

Come and join us on Wednesday evenings in Lent in the Garden Hall. You can sign up for the course using the links below on MyChurchSuite or through the Parish Office.

You can attend all or some of the sessions. Mandy and Nils will be leading the course.

Each session will start at 8pm and finish with compline. The sessions will last no longer than 1hr and 10 minutes.

Everyone who participates will be given a postcard of Rembrandt's 'Return of the Prodigal Son'. Please bring a Bible with you to the sessions. You don't need to buy the book but if you would like to you can order it from the Wimbledon Bookshop or online.
