Services now online only

Dear St Mary's,

The Mayor of London declared a major incident in London yesterday because of the very high levels of Covid 19 and the imminent risk of the NHS being overwhelmed. He also asked the Government to change the lockdown regulations to prohibit public worship in London.

The Church Wardens and I now believe that we should suspend public worship in St Mary's from today until the end of January. We will review the situation in the last week of January and advise you of what we plan to do then. We believe that this is the best way to protect each other, our community and the NHS.

Unfortunately, this means that we will be cancelling the service commemorating the centenary of the Warrior Chapel this afternoon. Instead of the service we will be uploading various documents and pictures to our website.

On Sunday's we will revert to our lockdown pattern of worship with a service at 10am on Zoom and Facebook, and Evensong at 6.30pm on Zoom and Youtube.

It is with a heavy heart that we have made this decision but the situation in London is now the most grave it has been since the pandemic began. We also know that the vaccine is being rolled out here now. Let's keep ourselves and each other safe and be patient just a little while longer.

Please do keep in touch, especially if you need help or support. We can all safely talk to each other on the telephone and on Zoom. You might like to think about who you would have spoken to when you came to church and give them a ring.

If you are self-isolating and need help with shopping, prescriptions or anything else please do get in touch so we can organise a buddy for you.

Yours in Christ
