Compline this evening

Published on Tuesday 7 April 2020

There will be Compline said at 8pm this evening LIVE on our facebook page (with the video available afterwards) as last night.

If you want to follow and join in with the psalm and responses an order of service is available here, or you may just want to listen and allow the gentle words and soothing rhythms wash over you and speak to you.

Having heard of the Prime Minister being in intensive care, and of the continuing rise in deaths today, including people we may know, let us continue to pray for all who are affected. I will be using one of my favourite prayers this evening (quoted below) to pray for the sick and the bereaved.

Of course when we begin to feel weary and sad, there is no more comforting words than Christ saying to us "Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." I will be playing these words, sung, from around 7.55pm, if you'd like to listen in and let them bring your mind and heart to rest before Compline begins.

with continuing prayers

Keep watch, dear Lord,
with those who wake, or watch, or weep this night,
and give your angels charge over those who sleep.
Tend the sick,
give rest to the weary,
sustain the dying,
calm the suffering,
and pity the distressed;
all for your love's sake,
O Christ our Redeemer.
