Bible Reading Suggestion

Published on Tuesday 24 March 2020

We are finding adjusting to the constant changes and updates in responses to the pandemic quite stressful. I think it is going to be a while before we find and settle into the new normal. One of the books of the Bible that I find most helpful in stressful and difficult times is Ecclesiastes. Most of us are familiar with the famous passage about their being a time for everything, but there is much more to this short but punchy book than that.

When we meet together on a Sunday we read short exerpts from different books of the Bible, but reading a whole book at one sitting gives a much richer sense of what it is all about. We can attend to what one particular voice from the heritage of our faith has to say. In Ecclesiastes Quoheleth, the preacher, often assumed to be Soloman, is looking back over a long life of teaching in court. He has lots to say about life, ambition, careers and what is really important in life. A useful perspective at this time when normal life is being interrupted.

It is a brief book that will reward the time and attention given to it. I hope you enjoy it.

I have also attached a link to the winners of the Wildlife Photographer of the year. They are fabulous pictures and a reminder that the beauty of the natural world is undimmed despite the cessasion of so much of what we consider normal in our lives. Spring is unfolding around us, so let's take time to drink in its beauty and to give thanks to the Creator who holds us and all creation in being.

You are in our thoughts and prayers. Just pick up the phone if you need a chat, we really enjoy talking to you and finding out how you are.

Lots of love

Mandy and the Ministry Team.
