The Death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
Published on Thursday 8 September 2022

From the Rector:

It was with great sadness that we heard of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II earlier today. The Queen served both our nation and the Church of England faithfully and with great wisdom and steadfastness for 70 years. In the midst of our loss our thoughts and prayers are with the King, Queen Consort and all the Royal family as they mourn a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Following the sad news we will be making a number of adjustments to our plans over the coming days. We want to offer comfort and support to the whole community at this sad time as well as honouring and giving thanks for Queen Elizabeth II.

Cancellation of our 10:30am Open Air Service and Picnic this Sunday

We will no longer be holding our united Patronal Festival Service this Sunday out of respect for Her Majesty. Instead we will be having our usual Sunday services at their usual times. We will be honouring and remembering both our Patron Saint The Blessed Virgin Mary and Her Majesty the Queen and praying for our nation, our government and the King and the Royal Family at this time of loss and transition.

St Mary's will be open every day with a Book of Condolence

The church will be open throughout the day tomorrow as usual and a Book of Condolence will be set up during the day.

Vigil Service

I have begun to plan a vigil service for tomorrow evening in church. I will let you know when the details of this are firmed up tomorrow.

We would like a formal portrait of Her Majesty to put in church with the Book of Condolence. If you would be willing to lend us one I would be most grateful. Please let me know.

Bells

St Mary's Bells will ring muffled tomorrow at noon to mark the Queen's passing.

I will let you know what further plans we have as things unfold over the coming days.

Let us give thanks for her Majesty in our prayers and commend the King and Queen Consort, the Royal Family, our Nation and Government and all who grieve to God.
