Introduction from the Rector

This Lent we are going to reflect on discipleship. This is the beginning of a process of discerning what the vocation of the Team is and whether God is calling our parish to a vision of 'Making Disciples in Wimbledon'. Once we have a clear vision we can then start to think what this means for the mission of the team and the mission of each of the individual churches within the parish.

To help us think and pray about what it means for us to be disciples as individuals, churches and a team we will be studying Rowan Williams recent book ‘Being Disciples – the essentials of Christian life’ at our Lent Lectures. The clergy are going to preach regularly on discipleship between now and September and then on Saturday 23rd September we will have a Parish Away Day for the members of all our churches where we will agree our vision and start to think about the specifics of what that might mean for the parish and each of the churches. Please put the date in your diary.

For each of us Christian discipleship is a journey that begins at our baptism and starts to progress when we take up Jesus’s invitation to 'come and follow me'. Being a disciple means being willing to travel with Christ and being willing to go to new places. As a reminder of that pilgrimage is at the heart of discipleship we will be having a pilgrimage round the parish for the Lent Lectures this year, visiting each of the Team Church and then finishing in our own church for the final session.

Lent Lectures
Published on Wednesday 1 March 2017

The Lent Lectures this year will be based on Rowan Williams book "Being Disciples".

We will go on a pilgrimage to around the team churches on four Tuesdays of Lent. The sessions will start at 8pm. The 'home' Vicar will do a ten minute introduction to the relevant chapter in the book and then lead a discussion on the chapter. The session will finish with compline at 9pm.

On the fifth Tuesday in Lent we will each meet with our own churches to discuss the final chapter and think about our own church's approach to discipleship.

We have ordered copies of the book which you can buy for £9.00 in church.
